Sunny weather, gorgeous beaches, beautiful scenery and a laid back way of life. Orlando is a great place to live and work. If you are thinking of relocating to the Sunshine State here are a few tips that could ease the stress of moving.

Look ahead

When you make the decision to move, you will need to start planning every detail of the process. Many decisions lay ahead so make a list and get moving.

Movers

Many people only look at price when choosing a moving company, this is generally a bad idea. Read the reviews of previous customers. This is one area where spending the extra cash could pay off!

Cost

Moving is expensive. There are obvious expenses such as new home, hiring movers and deposits. However, there are many other small cost that people fail to prepare for. Always leave some breathing room in your budget for these unexpected expenses.

Packing heavy and light

When packing boxes, make sure to put heavier items in small boxes and lighter items in large boxes. If you over pack boxes and make them too heavy it will slow the moving process down tremendously. Also remember to label boxes on the outside for easier delivery.

Measurements

Not all furniture will fit into your new home, so be sure to take measurements before moving everything to your residence. It is best to know beforehand if you need to sale your old couch and buy a new one.

Address

Changing your address is a simple detail that can be done in advance of moving day. Don?t let this simple detail slip your mind because it can cause a major headache later.

Pets

Some people choose to board their pets until the chaos settles down, usually a good idea. Pets can easily be overwhelmed or injured if left unattended during a move. If you can?t afford to board them, ask a friend or family member to keep them until you are more settled in your new home.

Kids

New home, new school and new friends. This can be a lot for kids to take, especially very young children. Arrange for family members to keep children during the actual move so they aren?t in the way or risk getting hurt. It can also be very hard for kids to watch their old homes being emptied out. Get their space in your new home arranged and then bring them home. Also don?t forget to make all the necessary arrangements for a new school. Often the paperwork will need to be done before hand.

Clean Out

Moving is a great time to purge your entire house of all the junk. This will reduce the amount of packing, loading and unpacking that will need to be done at your new home.

Essentials

It is not uncommon for moving companies to have delays in delivering your possessions for several days, especially if you are moving a long distance. Make a bag or box of essentials you will need to travel with you. Cleaning supplies are a great idea so you can get a start cleaning your new home before the trucks arrive. Some other good ideas include, toilet paper, a few dishes, pans to cook with, snacks and anything else you deem essential.

Stay organized and do as much preplanning as possible to make your move go smooth!
